NONA Bistro

Nestled in a lush backyard of a bungalow house turned mini mixed use is the most delightful outdoor eating establishment in SLC. An intimate location for about 30. Patrons dine under the shade of trees, tall grasses, grape vines, and once the sun has set, the vast starry night. In the heat of the summer or the freeze of the winter, you can come inside the old garage where views to that lush landscape are available to all. A bar and seating maintain the smallness of this experience.

The original house had small rooms, low ceilings, fussy trims and decorations that were all removed. Bottom chords of trusses were detached and now tall vaulted ceilings and a large open area create a wonderful volume of space.

Nona SLC lives in a residential neighborhood, so zoning is rather protected. In lieu of creating a new structure, the project became about the found spaces within the bungalow and creating a secret garden.

The outdoor fresh air is paramount especially in this post covid time, copious amounts of fresh air exchanges are happening through nature. The sounds as the foliage rustles, the swaying grasses are all intentional uses of biophilia.

At a community level, the neighborhood has similar small businesses that encourage local economies, by creating a delightful walkable area. Nona Bistro is an exemplary project for neighborhoods in SLC that have huge blocks, parking lots and car oriented lifestyle. Nona provides entertainment, health , social interactions that is not seen very often.
