SLCC Childcare
Client: Salt Lake Community College
Size & Scope: 10,000 sf remodel of Institute adjacent to South High
Completion: 2022
The team brought a new palette into the space rather than matching the dated pink and brown hues from the existing building. The design sets a new aesthetic that the new bold colors and fun shapes will continue through out the building in future remodels. The project includes 3 playgrounds, one large and fun area for the children to play in. The user group was deeply involved with design decisions, helping to shape a new wonderful space for children. The building is a single story 8,000 sf structure, corridors are amply big, existing restrooms did not meet ADA requirements, so part of design included adding a bathroom and providing adequate facilities for children’s safety and enjoyment.
Each room needed several sinks to meet health department standards and for the practice of good hygiene. We proposed colorful wall coverings in funky shapes to activate the space and make it a fun room to be in. The color scheme includes bold hues: purples, blues, magentas, yellows and greens. Colorful flooring matches each room and makes a wipeable surface for inevitable spills.
